Daily Office Lectionary Resources

The Daily Office Lectionary is arranged in a two-year cycle, and includes three readings for each day, to be shared between Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer. The instructions in the Prayerbook for how the lectionary is divided up are found on page 934, and these are specific to the number of services prayed through the day. Thus, let them guide your daily practice. The Lectionary is also available online here

Advent 2023 begins Year Two in this cycle.

The complete Psalms are prayed every seven weeks, with exceptions being made for Christmas, Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Season variations. A significant portion of the Bible is read in this pattern as well.

The Daily Office Lectionary offers Morning and Evening Prayer Lessons for Holy Days, on page 996.

The rubrics, or instructions, for the Daily Office allow for suitable Psalms and Readings to be selected for special occasions. If you should choose, there is an opportunity to celebrate the Lesser Feasts of the Church year, and various Saints Days in your Daily Office.

The Episcopal Church offers a calendar here that includes all the observances from Lesser Feasts and Fasts 2022. Approved at the General Convention in 2022, this is a document of commemorations that include updates since the Prayerbook was published in 1979. There is a full list here. Information on each Saint, and suggested readings are available on both sites.

Due to the large number of observances possible, not all these days are always observed, but rather a few meaningful ones are selected.

This webpage is specific to those who are observing the Daily Office. We also have a webpage with general prayer and worship resources found here.
