Resources for the Forum
The Church in the World forum held December 10, 2023 will examine climate change. When her faith is challenged by a hurricane, a young evangelical mom must discover God’s purpose for her life. “Virginia’s Calling” presents her journey with the aim of bringing Christians together to protect God’s creation. Our presenter, Barry Lyons, Wayne State Associate Professor of Cultural Anthropology, will talk about his film and lead a discussion about how we can care for God’s creation.
About our Speaker
Barry Lyons is a former Peace Corps volunteer in Ecuador and an anthropologist at Wayne State University. In visits to Ecuador over the last few decades, he has seen small farmers struggling to cope with increasingly extreme and unpredictable weather. He has two sons, whose future he worries about. Since 2016, he has been exploring how Christians in the United States and elsewhere are interpreting and responding to climate change.
